Okay, here is the dealโ€ฆwhen I saw this recipe on the rotation for January 6th, it really did not appeal to me. Reason beingโ€ฆI am not a HUGE fan of pears, I mean I like them well enough to eat cold as a snack, but not so much in form of desserts. I knew that Dorie Greenspan had chosen this recipe, but that fact was not strong enough to compel me to buy the ingredients to make this French Pear Tart. However, I kept in tune with the P&Q on the Tuesdays with Dorie site and noticed that A.) no one was having issues with this recipeโ€ฆwell, other than the pan size and B.) everyone was raving about this damn tart. I will admit it crossed my mind that all the raving was due to the fact that Dorie had picked the recipe and since she wrote the bookโ€ฆ.well, you see my connection.

Fast forward to Tuesdayโ€ฆeven though I did not make the tart, I still checked in with the other bloggers to see their results and reviews. AGAIN, everyone was raving! So, Wednesday night I stopped at the market, grabbed the ingredients and assembled this sucker that evening. It was easy enough, poach the pears, make the tart crust, make the almond cream, assemble, bake and done! My photos are less than fabulous, but I was in a hurryโ€ฆAKA lazy and Top Chef was on! The tart cooled overnight; I sliced it the next morning and sent it off to the boyfriendโ€™s place of employment. Now mind you, I did not taste my creation because I was still on the fence about the pear component. Although it was quite pleasing to the eye, it was not calling my name PLUS it was 7:00am when I cut it into portions. I left for work and dismissed French Pear Tarts from my brain. At 9:00 I received a text message from the boyfriendโ€ฆhere is what it said, โ€œThis thing made me drool, itโ€™s amazing!โ€ Seriously are you kidding meโ€ฆhe does not even like pears! Two minutes later, another text, โ€œThey (co-workers) all said this is one of the best, if not THE BEST thing you have ever made.โ€ Reallyโ€ฆand not even ONE morsel of this baby crossed my lips!

Well apparently all the raves were spot on and apparently I need to make this tart again in the very near future. Want the recipe? Head over to Dorieโ€™s site. Learn from meโ€ฆif you make; taste it!

I was just talking with my husband about this very thing over dinner tonight. I served the pear tart to a dinner party of 8 people and we all loved it. This week I served the chocolate gingerbread to the same group and opinions were all over the ballpark. From dislike to love. The pear tart is going to be my standard entertaining dessert. Keeping a tart shell in the freezer will help it be even easier. Yours is pretty, and Iโ€™ll be interested in seeing how you like it (when you try it). I donโ€™t think all the raves were just because Dorie might be reading!!

Oh yay! Iโ€™m glad you finally made it and how awesome to get such rave reviews!!!

I made mine with apples for TwD-day and loved it โ€“ got raves from the coworkers tooโ€ฆ but I definitely wouldnโ€™t say it was the best TwD recipeโ€ฆ sorryโ€ฆ there are plenty others that I liked much more.

I did buy pears yesterday so I might just make it again (in an 8โ€ณ pan this time).

Bummer that you didnโ€™t taste it, but good on you for getting such rave reviews! I normally wonโ€™t serve things to people that I havenโ€™t tasted myself, a thing that doesnโ€™t help my waist!

Okayโ€ฆI didnโ€™t make it either. I skipped it because (a) I need to lose weight and (b) Iโ€™m not really crazy about pears. But, like you, all Iโ€™m seeing is rave reviews. Everyone is saying itโ€™s the best recipe yet. I HAVE to try it soon! It looks wonderful, by the way.
