Letโ€™s talk cherries. As you know, I have a pretty strong affinity for this lovely fruit. Iโ€™m usually the one paying the big bucks for them before they are actually in season and can be found snacking on them all summer long.

When Iโ€™m not noshing on them fresh from the colander, Iโ€™m looking for ways to work their sweet deliciousness into desserts and drinks.

Letโ€™s face it, pitting cherries by hand can be a giant pain, trust me โ€“ Iโ€™ve done it โ€“ numerous times. Itโ€™s messy and the cherries end up looking like theyโ€™ve been stepped on as opposed to pitted which doesnโ€™t work out so well for some recipes. Plus the juice splatters everywhere, and since I am not so fond of cleaning in general, I try not to make more work for myself.

I own two cherry pitters, but find myself using the one from OXO on a regular basis. It only pits one cherry at a time, but I honestly find it to be less of hassle when comparing it to my cherry pitter that pits multiple cherries at one time. Plus itโ€™s small enough to store in my utensil drawer and has a nifty splatter shield which helps keep the juice on my cutting board as opposed to my face. Itโ€™s also sturdy and dishwasher safe which is always a big bonus in this household.

The OXO Cherry Pitter retails for about $13 and can be found at retailers such as Bed Bath and Beyond (be sure to use a 20% off coupon), Target and Amazon. And in my opinion itโ€™s a summer essential!

I received this as a Christmas gift from my husbandโ€ฆ. After complaining last summer of cutting and removing pit or biting in half to give my toddler a pit-free cherry, I put this on my gift list, yes I keep a list year round of misc. things I would like as a gift, things I would not by myself (hey grownups should have gift lists too, it makes things so much easier), and I suppose he didnโ€™t want me to complain anymore. I love love love it. I have used it for pitting calamata olives and then lots and lots of cherries this summer. My son loves cherries and I now I donโ€™t spend forever cutting them up for him, I just get out my pitter and go to town on those tasty little suckers.

I am totally getting a cherry pitter this year before I go cherry picking. Last year it took so long to pit all the cherries that I resolved to make things easier this year! Iโ€™ll have to get this one!
